... or petrol/diesel, consider this:
Today, I went to get some flea prevention treatment for Henry the cat from the vet. The cost was £44 for a 0.89ml tube.
I make that £49,438 per litre.
Oh, and I was encouraged to feel grateful that the 40mg worming tablet, which the little wretch almost certainly will refuse to take, was "only" £11. Yes £11 for one tablet.
The veterinary profession are taking us pet owners for mugs.
Feckin good job that the eight weeks' supply of seven lots of different tablets (that's 504 pills) for me, and the three lots for Sarah (280 pills), which I picked up from the pharmacy ten minutes later, aren't charged at £11 per pill!
To save you doing the maths, that would be £8,624 per eight weeks, or £56,056 per year.
If only I'd done veterinary studies at uni instead of French.

I buy Rosie’s flea and tick treatment from Amazon. Frontline.
£22 for 6 pipettes - 6 months worth.
Much cheaper than veterinary!

The one from the vet lasts three months, but that still makes it far more expensive than the one you use. Mind you, the thought of administering the treatment to our lovely but vicious Henry every month is somewhat worrying. Once every three months is bad enough - he really doesn't like being messed with! As for the human meds, I had to do direct debit for six years from 2011 to 2017, but luckily Sarah was still working at the time. Obviously with both of us being 60+ now we get them free - at least for the time being ...

In France the Government pay 60% of medical fees and you have to take out medical insurance to cover the other 40%. I pay 176 Euro's a month for the two of us. A visit to the Doctor costs 26.50 of which we get 22.50 back from the state and the insurance. Most medication costs a very reasonable 1 euro per item. A visit by the naughty nurse costs 4 euro's and if I have tests, of which I have had several a week recently cost 10.60 each time. An RDV with the surgeon costs 64 euro's. My operation cost 1710 Euro's but had to pay extra for the anaesthetist, 438 Euros, and the hospital room, theatre staff and even meals.
Sorting all the bills is doing my head in and I am probably 1500 Euros "out of pocket" as the state and the insurance do not cover everything.
My "Super Viagra" which I have to take every day for 4 months, and each tablet costs me 7.50 which I have to pay for as they are classed as non-essential or recreational.
At least I am still alive but I haven't had as much as a twitch yet.
Yesterday I had a letter off our Insurance to say that I have exceeded what I am covered for and can I pay them back the extra PDQ. I'll have a look at that later today.
Goodness knows what the next lot of tests and treatment is gonna cost.
I am beginning to regret having it done.

Don't say that. You can't put a price on health!

Don't say that. You can't put a price on health! Of course you are right Su. But after being cared for so wonderfully well by the NHS, being asked for your credit card every time you see a health professional whilst being a "fully paid up member" of the French System really does annoy me. The health service here is magnificent but expensive.

No don't. It's good to have a different subject and we can all moan on here in safety, knowing that you'll get supported

Prescriptions are free for everyone in Wales. Doesn't save me anything now I'm over sixty, of course 🙄
