I have a feeling that England are not going to have a successful run in this world cup.
What with taking unfit players and some players not getting much game time with their clubs, I think it could all go tits up for Southgate.

You only have to look at our record when playing against top class sides to see that it'll be the same old story, I'm afraid. Those Nations League matches showed how ordinary we are. Mind you, I wish that we'd done the noble thing and withdrawn in protest against the awful place where the tournament is being held. I'll probably dip in and out but I won't be following it with the same interest and enthusiasm as I normally do. |

I wish sport and politics would try to keep as far away from each other as they can...but as you say the record of "regimes" regarding human rights etc leave a lot to be desired. Sadly we would be battling hundreds of year of cultural diffences that will not be swept away by gestures of boycotts. In my opinion the major tournaments should never go to such countries in the first place...but would you boycott cricket tournaments in India and Pakistan or certain American states on their stance on abortion or Australia for its treatment of their aboriginal peoples...this list would go on and on. |
