Today. Flew home. Brrrr it’s cold here. Washing. Shopping Tomorrow. Nutcracker ballet at Hippodrome with both sisters and a couple of cousins. JB and TT out at German market Sunday. Cooking breakfast for the stopovers then a couple of hours at the allotment before watching the England game

Tonight: Couscous with chicken and vegetables but with bulgur wheat instead of couscous.
Tomorrow: Off to Wellington for rugger. Slow cooker beef Stroganoff. Plus it's "light up Saturday" in our street, so I hope I'll be back in time for some mulled wine.
Sunday: Reports and then pork chops for lunch. Try to keep warm.

Tonight - bath, telly
Tomorrow - food shopping, then tree shopping and decorating the house (I still say it's too early but I'm outvoted)
Sunday - visiting the Christmas Market, but the one in Chester. Coffee with Jac - we're trying to see him was often as possible before he goes to Oz on 30th

Friday...
Good grief the house is freezing despite having the central heating on. We stayed in bed until after lunch looking at houses on the internet. We have found a couple of farmhouses just north of here that fit the bill. When we finally got up I had a play with the central heating. A couple of weeks ago I reinsulated inside the Oil fired central heating boiler and may have disturbed something. Balanced the thermostats in room and boiler and now we have some heat. I suspect the room stat is out of calibration, a bit like me, so ordered a new one.
Fish, chips and mushy peas for tea.
Saturday...
Its Chrissies niece's wedding day in Windsor which we wanted to attend but travelling anywhere is still pretty fraught with ongoing fuel shortages. There is not a single member of Chrissies family in attendance which has upset Katie. Not even the Mother of the Bride is there. Its a very dysfunctional family.
Having a lie in and will try to contact estate agents about viewing the two farmhouses and another house next week. We are not even sure where they are as estate agents here will not give the address unless you sign a contract before viewing. All we know is that they are about 15 minutes from Villefranche de Rouergue which is a nice town.
Chicken Curry with Fried Basmati and Poppadums for tea. I will be using the last of the Peppers from the garden.
Sunday...
Perhaps go to the Christmas Market in La Cayla which is about two minutes the other side of Martrin. Christmas card writing. I will keep out of the way of that chore.
Football in the evening.
Pork Chops with baked Potato's for tea.

New oven element...3rd one in 4 years, gets harder to do it every time...its me not the cooker.
Put a new clock mechanism in the 25th anniversary clock. Got it on-line for £10-00, just hope it fits and I can fit it. We had the old one repaired last spring, took them 3 months, £26 and it broke again. They said they had to repair the old on because a new mechanism was not available. I got a new one in half an hour searching the internet and much of that time was deciding which one we liked.

Chicken in all forms are quite often on the menu, but the fish we eat is very often salmon and other fish tends to be grilled, with salad. But tonight we are having chip shop fish, chips and mushy peas, mainly due to you.

We buy fish from the supermarket and breadcrumb it but you cannot beat crispy batter. Home made mushy peas.
What I miss most is fresh cods roe from Birmingham Fish Market.

This has got me thinking.
When I was youth when I came out of the pub I used to buy a piece of tinned roe from the local chippy and take it home and have it on a buttered bread cob for my supper.
But the best was a piece of Plaice between two slices of buttered bread.
You just cannot beat a piece of Plaice.

Hake is my favourite battered fish, but chippies dont do it now...so I go for plaice, but you have to wait for it to be cookeg, upside is its fresh.

But plaice has a unique taste so I tended to go for plaice. We are lucky down here in the South of France. The choice of fresh fish is incredible. I stand for ages looking at the array you can get. Sardines, I adore fresh sardines. Grilled, squeeze of lemon and some brown bread and butter.

TBH, I do like all fish, including jellied eels...used to get them in the Bull Ring, but outside London pubs after a belly full of beer, delicious. Our local curry take away used to tandoori hake as a starter, but the price of hake went sky high so they stopped doing it....sad day that was.
