Blackburn played their 5000th league game yesterday, the seventh club to do so after Preston, Burnley, Wolves, Bolton, Derby and Albion.
Anyone like to guess how many we've played? I've worked it out, and I've included three "test matches" (19th century play-offs) and 11 play-off matches.
One guess each - nearest wins my undying respect.

Given that they were formed the same year as Blues, I reckon we can't be far off, so I'm going to go for 4989

Given that they were formed the same year as Blues, I reckon we can't be far off, so I'm going to go for 4989 The seven that have passed the milestone had four years start on Blues because they were all original members of the league in 1888 - Blues were original members of Division 2 which started in 1892. The next club to reach 5000 will be Notts Co, and they would have passed it a couple of years back if they hadn't been relegated to the Conference, or whatever they call it nowadays. Anyway, your guess was quite good, all things considered, but the actual figure is lower. |

Come on Will don't hold us in suspenders. Sorry mate - I was waiting to see if anglais or K were going to have a go. The correct answer, including Tuesday's game, is 4929. Or at least it is by my maths. So you were the closest, but then you had clues following Mulv's and Su's guesses!  But well done anyway. |
